What we do

Our research and academic specialization focuses on the priorities of Global Development – quality of life, sustainable growth, management of natural resources, equality and justice, peace and security – and its challenges – climate change, food security, sustainable agriculture, eradication of poverty and human development. Therefore, we align our activity with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and, more specifically, its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In this scenario, the role of water, sanitation and energy stands out when addressing the SDGs: meeting the basic needs of the population, promoting economic progress and responding to the demands of the productive sectors, as well as ensuring environmental health and sustainable management of natural resources.

We make contributions in all these areas, according to the different academic profiles in the group. Particularly, we are currently working on specific lines of research that share common goals and approaches:

  • Multidisciplinary applied research, with foundations based on applied mathematics, experimental sciences and technology.
  • Innovative contracts with agencies, governments and NGOs.
  • National and international different research projects , mainly with other academic partners.
  • Networks with sectoral actors in academic and non-academic fields.
  • Education in undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the UPC, and supervision of master's and doctoral students.
